savvas – autumn reverb

Those seeking a slow burner need not look any further than Etoka Record’s latest by Athens-based Savvas Karabinos. Seriously deep atmospheres here. Celestial pads meet plucking synth, grooving bass and finger tapping rhythms. Savvas manages to put everything to good use in his simplistic and intelligent arrangements.
gorje hewek, izhevski – nomdetemps

Los Angeles and Moscow rooted Pro-Tez Records presents an much anticipated debut from Deep Mix curators Gorje Hewek and Izhevski. The pair have left their posts at the popular broadcast to pursue production and touring. They bring forward a profound taste for deep music and an especially unique brand of Russian house.
“Nomdetemps” is likely to please both those at home and on the floor. Steady builds that patiently blossom with elegant strings and dream-like vox. Both tracks pack punchy sub frequency basslines, “Inspire” feeling slightly jackin’ and “Aureol” more playful and euphoric.

sven laux – unfound sketches

Berlin’s Sven Laux has done anything but conform. His unique take on music making has him sharing the company of artisans like Pheek, Ezekiel Honig and Marc Neyen. In a discography that stretches as far back as 2006, there remains a prevalent underlying passion for the obscure.
Though we’ve yet to see micro production really take off, this doesn’t seem to discourage a throng of talented visionaries dedicated to the clicks and cuts craft. Sven, coming off a full length debut on Microcosm that had writers buzzing, has been staying the course with releases on 31337, Villar Village and his latest for Unfoundsound Records.
Unfound Sketches has to be Laux’s most fluid work to date. Six sedative compositions each perform their part beautifully. Drifting drones seemingly glide over patchy beats riddled with familiar blips and clacks leaving the listener in a calmative trance. Plenty of chopped-up foundsounds keep things feeling organic throughout. Wonderful stuff from a pioneer in his field.

overcast sound – popoloco

While Jamie Drouin and Michael Pettit no longer share the same city, they continue to represent Canada in full form on their latest for Falk Recordings.
Popoloco EP is a great little package for fans of deep and dub techno. Meditative chants play an alluring role, tribal percussive elements leave the music begging for the open air. Reminiscent of classic Intrusion-style dub. Three deeply themed tracks are backed by a progressive live cut that finishes the release off on a high.
